Action & Adventure Editorial Review
The film under review highlights a gripping portrayal of real events surrounding the infamous Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar, primarily through the eyes of a female journalist, played by Penelope Cruz. Viewers were particularly captivated by Cruz's powerful and nuanced performance, which offered a refreshing perspective on the narrative often dominated by male figures. The film has sparked engaging discussions about its depiction of Escobar, emphasizing both his cruelty and his complexities, including a surprising emotional depth that complicates the image of a purely villainous character. Many reviewers praised the storytelling and pacing of the film, noting that it maintains interest while revealing facts about the life and impact of Escobar that some viewers may not have known. The strong performances by the cast, particularly Cruz and Javier Bardem, were also highlighted. However, Bardem's portrayal received mixed feedback, with some viewers finding his appearance distracting due to the makeup used for the role. Although the film contains graphic scenes that may be unsettling for some, the overall reception has leaned positively, with many applauding it as a compelling watch that exceeds expectations set by negative reviews. Whether for the action, the intriguing narrative, or the performances, viewers agree that the movie elicits strong feelings, making it a memorable cinematic experience. **
