Format: DVD DVD Editorial Review
**** The documentary on Abraham Lincoln stands out as a significant contribution to historical understanding, weaving together insights from prominent figures such as Doris Kearns-Goodwin and former President Barack Obama. It delves into the complexities of Lincoln’s life and presidency during an unprecedented time of division in the United States, showcasing the nuances often overlooked in traditional history narratives. The inclusion of African-American historians adds a vital perspective, especially in exploring the Civil War's transformation into a fight for freedom. Viewers are particularly appreciating the documentary's depth, which spans from Lincoln's youth through his presidency, addressing critical moments, including the slavery issues and the Civil War. This program not only highlights Lincoln's political acumen but also draws parallels between him and Obama, who both faced the challenges of uniting a fragmented nation while making tough, controversial decisions. Despite the freshness of perspectives offered, some viewers noted minor omissions, such as the lack of details regarding Lincoln's early romantic relationship with Anne Rutledge. However, the overall reception of the program is overwhelmingly positive, with many recommending it for educational purposes due to its informative content and exceptional production quality. The documentary is described as essential viewing for history enthusiasts and students alike, with many arguing it could serve as a resource for teaching high school history courses. Thus, it firmly positions itself not only as an exploration of one of America's most revered presidents but also as a pertinent educational tool. **
