What is the Zurn Wilkins 34-975XL2 backflow preventer?

The Zurn Wilkins 34-975XL2 is a reduced pressure principle backflow preventer designed to protect potable water supplies from contamination due to backflow. This device is constructed for durability and precision, featuring two independently acting check valves that prevent back pressure. Ideal for high-risk applications, such as irrigation systems and fire protection, it ensures that water remains clean and safe for consumption or use in commercial applications.

How does the reduced pressure principle work in this backflow preventer?

The reduced pressure principle works by maintaining a pressure differential between the supply water and the system. If a backflow condition occurs, the pressure drops, which allows the device to divert contaminated water back into the system. This configuration minimizes the risk of water pollution in drinking water supply lines, making it essential for facilities that require strict adherence to health and safety standards.

What applications are suitable for the Zurn Wilkins 34-975XL2?

The Zurn Wilkins 34-975XL2 is suitable for various applications, including commercial irrigation systems, fire protection systems, and industrial water supply lines. Its design enables it to handle high-volume water flow and fluctuating pressures, making it ideal for settings where cross-connection risks are prevalent. This backflow preventer is essential for safeguarding public health, especially in environments where water cleanliness is critical.

What materials are used in the construction of the Zurn Wilkins 34-975XL2?

The Zurn Wilkins 34-975XL2 is constructed from high-quality materials such as bronze, which offers excellent resistance to corrosion and wear. The internal components, including its check valves and springs, are built to withstand harsh conditions, ensuring longevity and reliability. This robust construction makes it an ideal choice for both residential and industrial applications where durability is paramount.

Can the Zurn Wilkins 34-975XL2 backflow preventer be installed outdoors?

Yes, the Zurn Wilkins 34-975XL2 backflow preventer can be installed outdoors as long as it is protected from extreme weather conditions. Proper installation includes ensuring it is placed below the frost line and shielded from direct sunlight and severe elements to maintain optimal functionality. Outdoor installations are common in irrigation systems and fire protection setups, benefiting from this device’s protective capabilities.

How do I maintain the Zurn Wilkins 34-975XL2 backflow preventer?

Maintaining the Zurn Wilkins 34-975XL2 involves regular inspection and testing to ensure optimal performance. It’s advisable to periodically check for leaks, corrosion, and the condition of the valves. Cleaning the device and replacing any worn components can prevent failure and ensure long-term reliability. Routine maintenance is essential, particularly in systems serving high-demand applications, to avoid potential contamination issues.

What are the dimensions of the Zurn Wilkins 34-975XL2?

What is the difference between this backflow preventer and others on the market?

The Zurn Wilkins 34-975XL2 stands out from other backflow preventers due to its advanced reduced pressure principle design, allowing it to handle higher risk applications effectively.
